10 Stocking Fillers For A Gardener

Christmas is coming and I'm so excited to bring you a new gift list packed with stocking fillers for those who love gardening. If you are looking for bigger gifts then you can check out the gift list I wrote last year.

I love every part of giving gifts, especially the process of picking something personal and thoughtful that makes a gift go from being something that is nice to have, to something that is loved and cherished. A gift should never be given 'just because', taking the extra time to find a present that matches the recipients personality and interests makes all the difference to the person opening it, but also to you as the gift-giver. Seeing someone surprised, delighted, or touched at the level of effort and detail is honestly the greatest gift of all.

I know that everyone will be feeling like Christmas needs to be on a budget this year in particular, so I've included plenty of inexpensive garden gift options that I know I'd be thrilled to receive as an avid garden lover. It is definitely the thought that counts, and we should not forget the recent Christmases that got 'cancelled' and how we all learned that the most important thing was the ability to just be together and not the 'stuff' we felt pressured to buy and give.

I hope these ideas will spark some joy without breaking the bank, and of course buying any of these will support small businesses who all need a little extra visibility right now.

Bee Seedball Box, from Peace With The Wild - at just £3, these boxes are a real stocking filler treat, they each contain 6 seed balls packed with bee, and butterfly friendly wildflower. Every garden should have a wild patch to encourage organic growth and nature habitats, and the best way to achieve it is through bee seedballs like these. They are made in the UK, totally natural, plastic free, peat free, and vegan friendly.

The Mini Bird Pizza Kit, £7.50 from The Den Kit Company. I absolutely love this idea, and it's perfect for kids and adults alike. This mini version of a larger kit (also available on the website), is a cute little creative activity that will keep your garden birds happy this winter. In the stocking size mini sack you will find bird seed, pizza bases and instructions to make adorable bird feeders for your garden.

Small Seed Planting Ruler, £11.95 from The Worm That Turned. This pocket sized seed spacing ruler is a brilliant stocking filler for any gardener. I am notorious for being bad at seed spacing and I'm forever underestimating how big things will grow and ending up with overcrowded veg beds. This is the answer and a super sweet gift for any vegetable grower or allotment owner this Christmas.

I've just discovered Growbar's, and at £12.50 from The Gluttonous Gardener, they are a fabulous stocking filler or secret Santa idea for a garden enthusiast. With floral, edible and heritage options including Edible Flowers, Chinese Chef, Exotic Vegetable, and Jane Austin Flowers you will have no problem finding the right growbar for the special gardener in your life this Christmas. By just adding some water within just 6-8 weeks the seedlings will be ready to plant into the ground or into pot. Growbars are 100% eco-friendly, handmade in London, and packaged to look like chocolate bars!

Gardening Quote Pencil Set, £5 from Maple And Grace on Etsy. You can pick different colour design and get this set of pencils with cute gardening quotes on them as a great stocking filler idea. They don't come sharpened (which makes them easier to wrap), and I can confirm that having pencils in the greenhouse for writing on those plant labels is always a good idea!

A Plant for Each Week of the Year book by Garden columnist Louise Sims, available for £9.99 from The 3 Growbags. This book is full of beautiful photos and 52 plant profiles including bulbs, trees and flowers to make the perfect bedside reading book for a keen gardener who wants to expand their knowledge each week. If you've not come across the 3 Growbags before, they are three lovely sisters with gardens in England, Scotland and Normandy, and they run an online shop and wonderful gardening blog too.

Gardener's Snips & Pouch, for £7.95 from The Cottage Gardener. As a cross between scissors and secateurs, snips are super handy for any gardener to neatly harvest flowers, fruit and vegetables from the garden, or deadheading plants quickly and easily. They come in a recycled leather pouch to fit safely into pockets as you potter around the garden.

Matchbox Seedball Boxes are one of the smallest items on this gift list - perfect for a cracker, or a small stocking. At just £2.50, from Garden Diva's a UK family run business, you can get a match box of mini seedballs to fill a garden with Cornflowers, Poppies or Forget-Me-Knots.

Seeds make the perfect stocking filler and you can pick them up easily from garden centres, Homebase, Wilkos, B&M, and sometimes your local supermarket too. I tend to get mine from the Dobies catalogue or online - they have such a huge range that you can filter by harvesting month, and also stock some really unusual variations of your otherwise mundane vegetable.

This Vegetable Brush, for £5.50 from Fox & Marsh, will enable you to gently clean all that homegrown veg without peeling off the skins. The brush has both hard and soft bristles depending on how dirty your vegetables are. check out all the other eco-friendly products on their online shop, there are lots of gardening and baby products that I know you'll love.

I’d love to know what other stocking filler ideas for gardeners you have…
